CALEB BRUCE DAVIS, SR.


COLUMBIA, SC - Mr. Caleb Bruce "CB"Davis, Sr. died Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at the age of 90. A private extended family grave side service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 15, at Pine Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. Belk Funeral Home of Darlington is assisting the family.


Born in Darlington County January 28, 1920, Mr. Davis was the son of the late Perry and Bessie Davis also of Darlington. Mr. Davis was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a long time member of Trenholm Road United Methodist Church in Columbia.


Mr. Davis had a rewarding and successful career with Life of Georgia, spanning 48 years, retiring in 1986 as Regional Vice President. Mr. Davis was a recognized leader in his field which included his appointment to serve as President of the S.C. Life Underwriters and received numerous awards throughout his career including the coveted Carroll H. Jones Award in 1980. His service to Life of Georgia was interrupted when he served his country in WWII and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. During his retirement, Mr. Davis was an active and recognized leader in the local Kiwanis and the community.


Surviving are his children, Denise Thackston and her husband, Munro, of Columbia and son, C. Bruce Davis, Jr. and his wife, Lisa, also of Columbia; grandchildren: Rene’ Hannus and husband, Rob; Don Gaw, III, and his wife, Michelle; Caleb Davis and Jamie Davis and great-grandchildren.


He was predeceased by his wife Ruth White Davis; brothers: Perry Davis, Herbert Davis and Otto Davis; sisters: Rudell Benton, Thalia Ham and Java Jordan.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pine Grove United Methodist Church, 3544 Timmonsville Highway, Timmonsville, SC 29161.
